Discover Emmanuel Gaury's play (PGE 11), "What if we stopped lying to each other”?
“What if we stopped lying to each other?” is the name of the play co-written, co-produced and performed by Emmanuel Gaury, a PGE 11 graduate, and his group Les Inspirés.
The play tells the story of the friendship of Lucien Guitry, Jules Renard, Tristan Bernard, Alfred Capus and Alphonse Allais. During memorable lunches Chez Lucien, 26, Place Vendôme, the five stars of the Belle Époque would only stop smiling to fall about laughing. During these fraternal moments, the banter and the wine flowed freely. Yet in October 1901, they faced a turning point in their friendship: while some had to choose between fame and friendship, others wondered whether, for a woman, they could lie to their friends. And what about money?
Lying, especially in friendship, is what puts pepper in the salt of existence.
After success at the Avignon Festival, the play is now being performed at the Théâtre du Lucernaire in Paris until November 11th.
